Crown Raising
Crown raising removes selected lower branches to create more clearance beneath the canopy. The cut has to suit the tree rather than leaving the crown top-heavy.
It can help where low branches interfere with how people use the space below the tree. We assess the branch structure before deciding what should come off.
Crown Reduction
Crown reduction shortens selected branches to reduce the height or spread of the canopy. It is different from topping, which removes the upper crown without respecting the tree’s structure.
Reduction has to be selective. A certified arborist can explain whether the tree can be reduced sensibly or whether another option is safer.
Canopy Thinning
Canopy thinning removes selected branches from a dense crown while keeping the tree’s basic size and shape. The point is not to strip the canopy bare.
We look at branch spacing and structure, then remove only what the tree needs. Deadwooding can be handled at the same time when dead limbs are present.
Deadwood Removal
Dead branches can break away while the rest of the tree remains alive. Removing them deals with the failing wood without taking down a tree that may still be worth keeping.

What is the difference between pruning and trimming?
People often use the words interchangeably. What matters is why the branch is being removed: clearance, deadwood, structure, size or canopy density. We recommend the cuts based on the tree, not the label.
How often should a tree be pruned?
There is no single schedule for every tree. Species, age, condition and what is growing around it all matter. Have it looked at when branches die, clearance changes, or the canopy starts causing a specific problem.
When is the best time to prune?
Timing depends on the species and the reason for pruning. A certified arborist can tell you whether the work should happen now or wait for a better season.
Do you remove dead branches?
Yes. Deadwooding is one of the pruning services Cypress offers. We can remove dead limbs while leaving the healthy parts of the tree in place.
Can pruning reduce the size of a tree?
Sometimes. Crown reduction uses selective cuts to reduce height or spread while respecting the tree’s structure. A certified arborist can tell you whether reduction is appropriate for that tree.
Can you prune a tree close to a house?
Yes. The approach depends on the branches, the available space and what sits below them. We look at the site before quoting the work.
